Nuggets Forward Talks About Struggling Through Ankle Injury

The Denver Nuggets have had terrible injury luck this season. Nikola Jokic missed the longest chunk of a season in his whole career. Aaron Gordon has been dealing with a significant hamstring all season long. Christian Braun missed a big stretch. Cam Johnson has also been in and out of the lineup.

Johnson was supposed to be a huge addition to the Nuggets this season, but he hasn’t exactly lived up to the hype. While nobody expected him to keep up the same level of production he had in Brooklyn, Johnson’s numbers are way down.

This season, he is just averaging 11.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. Last year, he averaged about a 19/4/3.

Cam Johnson recently spoke about his struggles and getting through his most recent injury.

“One (part) is understanding that you’ve been through it before. (It’s) understanding that every time that you’ve felt down that you don’t really feel like you’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel - you just feel like you keep letting yourself down, letting your teammates down - every time that’s happened, I’ve been able to turn it around and get back on track some way somehow. It hasn’t knocked me out of the game completely yet. It hasn’t forced me to hang it up. It hasn’t forced me to miss every shot for the rest of my career. I just got to continue on with that trust, continue to work and forget about it.”

This is a good perspective for Johnson to have. He isn’t making excuses; he is just explaining that things don’t always go as planned. Johnson has his head on straight and he will get healthy and find his rhythm. When he does, the Nuggets will become even more dangerous than they already are.
