Lakers Star Luka Doncic Makes History With His Incredible Start To The 2025/26 season

Last season, the Los Angeles Lakers made the shock deal to acquire Mavericks star Luka Doncic, and already, it's a deal that is paying off in a big way. Early in 2025/26, the team have dealt with the absence of superstar LeBron James, but they've clearly been unaffected to this point, going 7-2 through their first nine games despite Doncic playing in just five of them.

In those five games however, Doncic has been off to an incredible start, with his 40 points per game ranking him first in the entire NBA. However, it's not just scoring for Doncic, but he's moving the ball to his teammates well, as the Slovenian star has made NBA history through five games.

In those games, Doncic has scored or assisted on an incredible 311 points, and through five games, that's the most for a single player in league history.

From Victor Wembanyama to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, there are plenty of players off to red-hot starts this season, but given the injuries around the Lakers, it's safe to say that Doncic may be the league's most impressive player in 2025/26 to this point.

With the Lakers at 7-2, there's plenty of confidence that when healthy, the trio of Doncic, James and Austin Reaves can make them a contender, and if Luka stays this hot, they're a problem in the Western Conference. For now though, the focus is on No. 77, with the superstar guard clearly finding the best form of his NBA career early in 2025/26.
