'Big Things Are Coming'; Mavericks Veteran Klay Thompson Promises A Turnaround This Season
Nov 7, 2025
Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, with many believing he could bring that success to the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent. Unfortunately, his time in Dallas has not been a success to this point, with many believing that his career is slowly winding to a very disappointing end.
In 2025/26, Thompson has averaged 8.5 points a game on just 29% from beyond the arc as the Mavericks have started 2-6, a major drop off from a player once a key piece of the Warriors 'Splash Brothers'. However, the veteran guard thinks he still has plenty left in the tank, revealing recently that he believes he can turn things around in Dallas.
“I’m gonna do great things. That’s coming. I know it is. I’m feeling like those first five games were hard for me to get my wind and get my legs under me. Now I’m finally feeling like myself again. And you just know as a shooter, when that ball is just effortlessly flicking off your wrist. You know big things are coming.”
It's unclear exactly how this turnaround is going to happen, as Thompson struggled for much of last season and has taken another step back in 2025/26, but with this confidence and the talent around him, there's a chance he can get back on track.

For now though, it looks like Thompson's career is coming to a sad, disappointing end, and if he can't find his stroke from deep again, it's going to be a very tough time for this team moving forward.
