Nets Rookie Talks About Struggle of Being on a Losing Team

For most NBA rookies, getting to the league is a huge adjustment. The players are bigger and better. The game is more physical. The pace is faster. The coaching is different. There are so many things that are new for a player entering the NBA.

One thing that not many NBA rookies are prepared for, though, is losing. Most NBA rookies have spent most of their basketball careers on winning teams. They’ve often been the best player, and have had the ability to lead their teams to winning records, state-championships, or even National titles.

Then, when they are drafted to a bad NBA team, for the first time in their career, they are on a losing team. And some of these teams aren’t just losing half their games. Some are losing 60+ games over the span of a season.

This is exactly the case for Danny Wolf. Wolf recently spoke about the adjustment of going from winning basketball to losing with the Nets.

"A bunch of guys in the NBA and most guys in the NBA come from winning teams, whatever level that is. In the last I don't know however long I can think in my basketball career I've been part of winning teams and you know the feeling. This is the first time I've been a part of - I don't say we're a losing team obviously our record is 15-45 - we're the youngest team in the NBA and there's a lot of valuable lessons and I hate saying you can learn from a loss because it stings and it sucks and losing as a competitor is one of the worst feelings.”

The Nets are rebuilding, and hopefully for Wolf, it doesn’t last too long. Losing can become contagious, and it’s a good thing that Wolf isn’t comfortable with the amount of losing the Nets are doing.
