Players Who Will Step Up With Cam Thomas' Hamstring Injury

The Brooklyn Nets will be without their second-leading scorer for the next few weeks. Cam Thomas is expected to be sidelined for at least three to four weeks with a hamstring injury. Currently, the Nets are tied as the worst team in the NBA at 1–9, along with the Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards. Here are three players you can expect to step up.

Michael Porter Jr.

MPJ is the leading scorer on the Nets, averaging 23.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. There’s really only one player on the roster who can let it fly like MPJ, and that’s Thomas. With Thomas out for the next few weeks, MPJ has the greenest of green lights. And so far, he’s taken it.

MPJ is averaging over 18 shot attempts per game since Thomas left and is shooting 10 of those from beyond the arc. Whether they go in or not is another question, but with more shots means more points, and you can expect that uptick in statistics from MPJ these next few weeks.

Egor Denim

Denim is the next player you should expect to take a nice step up in Thomas’ absence. While Denim is just a rookie, with Thomas out of the lineup, he is going to take a lot more of the ball-handling responsibilities. In the Nets' last two games, Denim has seen his minutes increase from 20 per game to 24 per game. He also has averaged nine points compared to his season average of 6.1 and five assists compared to his season average of 3.1.

Denim is already showing that its increased role is paying off. Can he continue to develop and improve while Thomas sits? The Nets should hope so.
