NBA Reporter Reveals Why the Warriors Won't Trade Jonathan Kuminga To Sacramento
Sep 18, 2025
The Jonathan Kuminga situation in Golden State is seemingly never-ending, as the team and player have been at odds all offseason, with no trade or extension put in place as of yet. Around the league, there is seemingly only one team interested in landing Kuminga, and that's the division rival Sacramento Kings, but to this point, owner Joe Lacob has forced the team to hold their hand.
Now, we know exactly why he hasn't traded him to the Kings, despite the team offering Malik Monk and a first-round pick, as Lacob and the front office are reportedly worried about the prospect of Kuminga becoming a star for a division rival.
“There is a sense from some people involved that there's a real reluctance not only to finally ‘quit him,’ if you will, but also to see him go up the road to another Northern California NBA team. It’s run by a guy in Vivek Ranadivé, who used to be with the Warriors. And what if Kuminga blows up and becomes a total star? From a personal ownership dynamic level, there are some folks who feel like that could be playing a small part. Again, that's not really relevant, because these other things are the real obstacles. But I mean, Joe—like a lot of owners—is very involved, too.”
Not only because of the Kings, but because of the personnel connections between the two teams, and as a result, it's highly unlikely that a deal between them will happen now or anytime in the future.
