Former NBA Point Guard Jeremy Lin Officially Announces His Retirement
Sep 1, 2025
Back in 2012, Jeremy Lin took the sporting world by storm, as he and the New York Knicks went on an improbable winning streak. It wasn't just the streak that captured attention, but it was the play of a backup point guard that stunned the most, with Lin leading this Knicks team with confidence and big time shots.
That would come to be known as 'Linsanity', a run that captured the imagination of the entire sports world, with Lin forever becoming a New York icon. In that run, the young guard would average 15 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds, playing just 39 games for the Knicks, the team he became synonymous with for the rest of time.
Now, 13 years later, the 37-year old has officially announced that he is retiring from the sport of basketball, with tributes pouring in across social media. Unsurprisingly though, despite playing for other teams, it's this run in 2012 that is remembered by most around the world.
Lin was last seen in the NBA back in 2019, but has continued his career overseas, but now he's officially moving on with his career. During his time in the NBA, Lin played for 8 teams, appearing in just 480 games across nine seasons, all while averaging 12 points in that time.
However, given the improbable run back in 2012 with the Knicks under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden, he's a player that will be remembered forever, and likely has a bright future in the sport beyond playing.
