Atlanta Hawks Open To Long-Term Extension With Recently Acquired Young Star

For years now, NBA fans have heard about the potential of former first-round pick Jonathan Kuminga, but with limited opportunities in Golden State, he failed to show just how good he can be at the NBA level. Then, he was dealt to the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline, and since that point, he's started to flourish at the highest level with more chances alongside some talented young names.

In 6 games since arriving in Atlanta, Kuminga has averaged 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists per game, and with a key role on the bench behind Jalen Johnson, he could be a massive part of the Hawks future. As of right now, Kuminga's contract has a team option for the 2026/27 season, but according to Jake Fischer, there may be mutual interest between the player and the team in getting a long-term deal done at some point this off-season.

At 23-years of age, Kuminga already has 284 NBA games under his belt, and given his great size and the skill that made the Warriors draft him with the No. 7 overall pick back in 2021, it's easy to see why a young team like Atlanta would want him around long-term.

Ultimately, Steve Kerr and the Warriors have struggled to develop young talent for a long time now, and while Kuminga may not pan out, the Hawks have seemingly seen enough to be pushing for a long-term deal in the very near future.
