Rudy Gobert Opens Up On Lofty Career Goals

Over the past 13 seasons, Rudy Gobert has been a defensive stalwart in both Utah and Minnesota, and in that time, he's continue to make a consistent impact. Across 894 career games, Gobert has averaged 13 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks per game, winning four Defensive Player of the Year awards, putting him tied with Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace for most all-time.

While he's struggled to develop a significant offensive game, Gobert has always been fantastic, but unfortunately, his teams have struggled to go deep in the NBA Playoffs year in, year out. Now, Gobert has revealed that a deep NBA Championship run is one of two goals he has remaining in the NBA, with the other being an incredibly lofty one.

“I’m really focused on the present moment. Being an NBA champion, that’s an objective—yes, champion. Best defender in history, four times. And then after that, I know that the day I retire, I’ll have plenty of other things on the side to keep me busy.”

According to Gobert, he'd love to be known as the best defensive player in league history, and while he's tied for most DPOY's in history, it's safe to say that to the average fan, he's still got a very long way to go.

Ultimately, Gobert will go down as an all-time level defensive player, and while he may never be known as the best of all-time, there's definitely a solid chance he can fulfil his first remaining career goal with an NBA Championship.
