NBA Insider Provides Latest Update On Jonathan Kuminga Heading into Training Camp
Sep 4, 2025
Jonathan Kuminga's contract saga has been the biggest talking point for a quiet Golden State Warriors off-season, but thus far, nothing has been resolved. Despite training camp being just days away, the two parties have not come to a resolution as of yet, with all options clearly still on the table.
Heading into training camp, NBCS Warriors have provided an update, and it's one that won't make Warriors fans very happy. According to the report, the parties are still hung up on the second year of a deal, with the Warriors wanting a team option while Kuminga pushes for a player option, with no intention of a long-term deal to stay in Golden State.
As a result, the two parties are 'nowhere near' an extension, with training camp likely to begin with Kuminga's future still unknown as the Warriors look to chase one final Championship under Steph Curry.
For a Warriors team that have been so well run over the past 12 years, it comes as a major shock to fans to see something like this play out in public. According to other reports, Kuminga is now leaning towards signing the one-year qualifying offer from the Warriors, a deal that would make him an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.
At 22-years of age, Kuminga has been fairly solid across four NBA seasons thus far, averaging 16 and 15 points over the last two campaigns, and while betting on yourself doesn't always work out in the NBA, that's clearly become his plan.
