Pacers Guard Bennedict Mathurin Reportedly Demanding Huge Money in Extension Talks

The Indiana Pacers have had two incredibly successful seasons with their deep core, but now some of those players are ready to get paid. For center Myles Turner, getting paid meant departing for the Milwaukee Bucks, but others seemingly want to remain with the team after their NBA Finals run.

Now we've learned more about the contract demands of one player in particular, with top NBA insider Jake Fischer revealing what Bennedict Mathurin is seeking on a new deal.

According to Fischer, Mathurin has asked Indiana for anywhere between $20 and $30 million during extension talks after playing a key role in their Finals run this past season.

A former lottery pick, Mathurin hasn't put together a spectacular regular season in his NBA career yet, but with an average of 16 points through three seasons, he's showing flashes of a potential 20+ PPG scorer in the league. On top of that, the dynamic Canadian has shown the ability to be one of the best defenders in the league, and at just 23 years of age, he's clearly got a very bright future ahead.

It's unclear at this point in time just how much the Pacers are willing to give him, but after losing star guard Tyrese Haliburton for the entire season, Mathurin is expected to step up as a starter in 2025/26. If he can fulfill his potential and take a step forward in that role, there's a chance that the Pacers could give him that big-money deal, but as of right now, he hasn't quite earned that type of payday yet.
