PJ Washington Signs Massive New Deal With the Dallas Mavericks

Recently, it was rumoured that ahead of the 2025/26 season, the Dallas Mavericks would work on an extension with talented forward P.J. Washington.

Now, they've officially got a deal done, with ESPN's Shams Charania confirming on Wednesday that the two sides have come to terms on a new deal.

Washington's new deal will keep him in Dallas until the end of the 2029/30 season, with the details on the contract coming in at four-years, $90 million, a massive upgrade for the 27-year old. Originally drafted No. 12 overall by Charlotte, Washington spent the first 4.5 years of his career with the Hornets, before he was acquired by Dallas during the 2023/24 campaign.

In two seasons with the Mavericks, Washington has played several roles, averaging 14 points, 7 boards and 2 assists in that time. Next season, when Kyrie Irving gets healthy, he's expected to anchor this bench unit alongside D'Angelo Russell in what could be one of the best second units in the NBA.

Now, he'll do so with a new contract, and with his future locked in alongside one of the deepest lineups in the entire NBA, this is a team that nobody in the league should be taking lightly heading into 2025/26. As for Washington, this is a big time payday, and after averaging 15 a season in 2024/25 for Dallas, if he can keep this up or even improve, he'll be a free agent again at 31, and could be in line for another massive payday at that time.
