Matt Barnes Reveals What Led To The End Of the Lob City Clippers

The 'Lob City' Clippers were one of the most exciting NBA teams in league history, but unfortunately, they were never able to make a deep postseason run. That's despite having stars like Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan, and great depth pieces such as JJ Redick and Matt Barnes to round out the roster.

With Doc Rivers leading the way, many expected great things from this Clippers squad, and despite endless highlights, they were never able to make it out of the second round. Since breaking up, there have been many comments from plenty of players involved in the organization at that time, and now, we've heard more.

In a recent interview, Matt Barnes opened up about when they knew that the squad was done, directly blaming Rivers for signing his son to a big-money deal as the reason for it.

“He brought his son over, and it was just some weird energy there. He paid his son. I’m not even mad. If I was in the position, I’d pay the s___ out of my son, too. But people don’t understand at the time what that did to people. I mean, he was making more than me, Jamal [Crawford] , JJ [Redick] – like guys that were putting in real minutes, you know what I mean? Playing in crunch time. And it kind of had people looking at him funny… when the son came, the energy with that — like guys weren’t really off that.”

While Barnes says he would have done the same if he were in Rivers' position, this is something that many from the outside have speculated over in recent times, and now, Barnes has confirmed it didn't play well in the locker room. Ultimately, there were many reasons why this team didn't contend, but after Rivers signed his son, Austin, it was simply over, ending an exciting yet disappointing era in Clippers history.
