LeBron Says His Son Deserves to Be an NBA Player

When Bronny James got drafted, not many believed he was a legit NBA player. Most people believed that if Bronny’s dad wasn’t one of the greatest basketball players to ever live, he would have no shot at being drafted. Bronny has been trying to prove the haters wrong.

In his second season in the league, Bronny is still not making much of an impact. He’s only averaging 7.2 minutes per game, averaging 2.1 points, 1.2 assists, and 0.5 rebounds. He is not a core piece to the Lakers' rotation, but sometimes gets spotty minutes in blowouts.

Despite this, his dad still thinks he belongs. LeBron said this about whether Bronny is deserving of his spot on an NBA roster.

“I’m super proud of him. And he belongs. He belongs. Real, meaningful minutes. I couldn’t dream of better. I couldn’t dream of something better than that. Just couldn’t. For him to go out and show his progression over the last year and a half, and why he belongs in this league and what he can do in this league… for the coaching staff to trust him tonight, and for him to have significant playing time and make plays—and for me to be out there on the floor with him—I couldn’t dream of a better feeling than that. I could not.”

While Bronny is certainly not playing “real meaningful minutes”, he still looks a bit more like he belongs than he did as a rookie. Would he still be in the league without LeBron’s influence? Who knows. But for Bronny, you can’t change who your family is. For him, the only path to proving people wrong is constant hard work and improvement.
