ESPN Insider Reveals New Prediction for LeBron's Team Next Season
Mar 24, 2026
Everyone is starting to wonder how the very end of LeBron James’ career will pan out. The first question everyone is asking is: when will he retire? The next one is: what team will he retire with? LeBron hasn’t given a ton of insight on his plans for the last season (or two, or three?) of his career, and it has fans and media members speculating on what the final chapter of a legendary career could look like.
Earlier this season, when the Lakers didn’t seem to be gelling and the problem looked like it could have been LeBron, the writing seemed to be on the wall that this would be his last season as a Laker.

Things have turned around. The Lakers are 9-1 in their last ten games, and the trio of Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James seems to have found their groove with one another.
One NBA insider thinks that this turnaround might indicate that LeBron won’t leave LA this offseason. Tim MacMahon reported that LeBron might not be going anywhere.
"LeBron's thriving in that role. And if you'd have told me in late February, 'Hey, LeBron might actually be back in LA,' which (Windhorst) always tried to leave wiggle room and I never wanted to hear it, I'll listen now. They're enjoying each other, the chemistry has done a 180."
If the Lakers can bring back LeBron for a supporting role, they would love to. As long as he doesn’t demand a huge contract, there’s no reason they wouldn’t want him helping lead the bench unit and quarterbacking the offense when Dončić and Reaves are out. However, how the rest of the season and playoffs go for the Lakers could determine whether LeBron finishes his career in LA or not.
