This NBA Legend Thinks the GOAT Debate is "Blasphemy"

Everyone wants to debate on who the Greatest Player of All-Time is. It’s an argument that has been going on for a long time, but one that seems to be getting more and more talked about every year. While obviously it is impossible to truly say who the greatest to ever do it is, that hasn’t stopped people from picking and prodding through the careers of the league’s greatest players to try and determine who is the number one greatest.

Not everyone appreciates these debates. First of all, the great players themselves probably don’t love being compared to one another. When you are as good as Michael Jordan or LeBron James, you probably believe you’re the greatest. Having others talk about why you might not be would certainly be frustrating.

NBA legend Robert Parish also hates the GOAT debate. He recently shared his thoughts on the never-ending conversation about who is the greatest basketball player ever.

“You can’t say that any player is better than. I don't know how many players that have come through the NBA... I think that is an injustice and it's criminal, an assessment of everybody else.

You think about that table where the best of the best sits. You cannot single out one player that's better than everybody else sitting at that table. They all are the best of the best. I don't subscribe to that philosophy about the GOAT. That's bullsh*t, in my opinion.

Nobody is better than everybody else that ever played in the NBA. Now, you might be the best player in your era. I agree with that. But the best player to ever walk on the NBA basketball court? That's blasphemy."

Parish is right, debating who is better is a losing game. It’s time we all just appreciate players for their greatness instead of trying to debate it.
