NBA Insider Says Wembanyama is the Most Dominant Defender He's Ever Seen
Mar 25, 2026
Victor Wembanyama is something we have never seen before. While he is only officially listed at 7’4”, many believe that he is well over 7’5” and has an 8-foot wingspan. Wembanyama’s body and skill set have landed him the nickname of the “Alien”, and it isn’t at all inaccurate.
Not only has nobody ever looked like Wembanyama on the basketball court, but there’s also nobody who has played like him. Even with one of the tallest frames in NBA history, Wembanyama is as agile as many players almost a foot shorter than him.

The combination of Wemby’s height, length, agility, and instincts has instantly made him the best defender in the NBA. In just his third NBA season, Wembanyama is likely to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.
NBA insider Zach Lowe recently compared Wemby to some of the greatest defenders in the history of the league.
“I don't know that any statistical system can quantify what he is doing on every single possession defensively. Everything is different when he is on the floor, and I don't even know how to measure that.
He’s the most dominant defensive player I’ve ever seen already. I am not that old, but I’ve seen Garnett, Olajuwon, Kawhi... all the guys post ’70s, and I don’t remember anything like this.”
Wemby hasn’t yet put together the defensive resume of guys like Olajuwon, Garnett, or even Draymond Green. That being said, he’s just at the beginning. If he stays healthy, Wembanyama’s career trajectory will have him on the path to becoming the greatest NBA defender of all time.
