Charlotte Hornets Surprisingly Linked To Two Top Center Upgrades
Jan 19, 2026
The Charlotte Hornets may not be having much success in 2025–26, but given their talented young core, this is a team that's got plenty of optimism for the future, despite a record of 16–27 halfway through this season. Sure, we've heard that before, but with the trio of LaMelo Ball, Kon Knueppel, and Brandon Miller leading the way, this time it may finally be different for Charlotte.
As a result, the front office is seemingly ready to get aggressive on a potential upgrade, as they appear to be targeting the center position as a position of need. According to Evan Sidery, they have locked in on two potential acquisitions, and while they would both be costly, they could mean a major upgrade for this organization.
In his report, Sidery names Brooklyn's Nic Claxton and Sacramento's Domantas Sabonis as two players that the Hornets could target at the deadline, and while neither would be overly expensive, they wouldn't be cheap either. Now, the organization needs to weigh up its future against the present, and if they believe that its young core can excel alongside an upgraded big man without giving up a key piece, a move could make perfect sense.

Only time will tell if Charlotte gets aggressive enough to land a big-name center ahead of the trade deadline, but given their lack of success over the past few decades as a rebuilding team, they need to get aggressive soon, so don't be shocked if it happens this season.
