Tyler Herro Set To Miss The Start of the 2025/26 Season for the Miami Heat
Sep 19, 2025
Tyler Herro has been taking his game to new levels every year for the Miami Heat, and with a potentially massive contract extension looming, big things were expected from him in 2025–26. Now, the start of his season will have to wait, as Herro has suffered a major setback ahead of a crucial campaign for the Heat.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Herro suffered an ankle injury in an offseason workout, leading to both the team and player agreeing that offseason surgery would be the best way forward.
As a result, Herro is set to miss the first stages of the 2025–26 campaign for Miami, although Charania did not reveal just how long the recovery from surgery will take for the rising star. While Herro started his tenure in Miami as a bench player, he's become crucial to their success in recent years, averaging a career-high 24 points a night in 77 games a season ago.

That comes after winning Sixth Man of the Year back in 2021–22, with Herro's game being taken to another level recently, as he is now shooting 47% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc, showing that he can be a key piece of a successful Heat postseason run.
Given that Herro was penciled in to be the Heat's starting point guard this season, any time missed will hurt them dramatically, and now Miami fans will simply be waiting to hear some good news ahead of the regular season.
