Boston Celtics Reportedly Pushing to Move Another Recently Acquired Player

The Boston Celtics were one of the most dominant champions in NBA history back in 2024, but since that point, things just haven't gone right for the legendary franchise. Not only were they beaten by the New York Knicks in round two of the playoffs in 2025, but they saw their biggest star Jayson Tatum go down with an injury, one that is likely to see him miss the entire 2025/26 season.

Unsurprisingly, this has led to them making some changes to the roster, notably trading Kristaps Porzingis in a package that included a second-round pick and Georges Niang, a player they quickly traded to the Utah Jazz. Now, it appears they may be readying themselves to trade another newly acquired player, according to a recent report from Grant Afseth.

According to the report, the Celtics are weighing a potential move to trade Anfernee Simons, a player they landed in the Jrue Holliday trade with the Portland Trail Blazers as they continue to shed salary.

The 26-year-old has spent his entire seven-year career with the Blazers thus far, averaging a solid 15, 3, and 3 in that time with a team that has struggled for the most part to put talent around him. After he was acquired, many believed the Celtics would look to make him a focal point of their roster and their future, and while that may still happen, all signs are pointing towards the team dealing him in the near future as they await Tatum's return.
