Mavericks Sign 7-foot-5 Center to Pair With Anthony Davis
Sep 11, 2025
The Dallas Mavericks have a lot of work to do. They recently had one of the five best players in the league on their roster and had just made the NBA Finals. Now they’ve traded away the second-best player in their franchise’s history and missed the playoffs altogether last season.
The Mavericks GM, Nico Harrison, has faced a lot of criticism for the Luka Doncic trade. He was gifted the number one overall pick, Cooper Flagg. Now he is going to try and build a team around him and Anthony Davis. It’s going to be a weird roster. Davis is aging out of his prime, while Flagg hasn’t played a single NBA game. Add Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson to the mix, and this roster is as confusing as one gets.

One thing that is clear, though, is that Harrison believes that “defense wins championships”. That may be why he is rolling the dice with signing an unproven, 7-foot-5 center to a camp deal.
Jamarion Sharp, a 24-year-old undrafted player from Mississippi, just reportedly joined the Mavericks in another confusing move for the Mavericks' front office.
Sharp is known for his defense, and that is probably why he is being targeted. Still, the Mavericks already have enough big men on the roster. Is this really where they want to be investing potential roster spots?
Maybe the gamble will pay off. Sharp was the NCAA leader in blocks twice. He also averaged over 3.1 blocks per game for the Texas Legends last season.
If Sharp can finally break through into the NBA, pairing his defensive skills with Anthony Davis could be interesting. Davis has always thrived next to big defensive centers. Could this random G-Leauger be the key to making the Mavericks' defensively focused contender become real? Probably not.
