Four Intriguing Guards Linked To Minnesota as They Look to Fill Final Roster Spot
Aug 15, 2025
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been among the elite teams in the Western Conference in recent years, and heading into 2025/26, nothing should change. This team is currently loaded with stars in Rudy Gobert, Anthony Edwards, and Julius Randle, and with some great role players and emerging players of the future, this is a team that has unlimited potential.
As of right now, however, the team has one roster spot remaining ahead of training camp, with most expecting them to look for depth at the guard position. Heading into training camp, it's the trio of Mike Conley, Anthony Edwards, and Donte DiVincenzo that are expected to take up the most minutes, making veteran depth the perfect option for them.
Now, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic has given four options for the Timberwolves, naming Bones Hyland, Landry Shamet, Cameron Payne, and Malcolm Brogdon as the likeliest options.
Currently, it's believed that Hyland, with his combination of shooting and on-ball defense, is the favorite to take the role, but with a primary ball-handler like Brogdon in the mix, that may be the way they end up going.

Hyland played four games for the Timberwolves last season after being acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers, and in an extended role with the team, there's a belief that he could be a difference-maker. Given how star-studded this team is, they head into the new season with genuine NBA title hopes, and if they can add the right depth piece to their backcourt, this is a team that's going to take the NBA by storm again in 2025/26.
