Carolina Hurricanes Owner Set to Purchase the Portland Trail Blazers

Thomas Dundon has been the sole owner of the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League since 2021, and now he's made a move into the NBA.

According to NBA Insider Shams Charania, at a valuation of over $4 billion, the 53-year-old billionaire is purchasing the Portland Trail Blazers from the estate of Paul G. Allen.

The move comes immediately as Dundon takes over the Trail Blazers, a team that has been rebuilding for the past several years after trading away franchise icon Damian Lillard, with the team being aggressive in trying to take a step forward in 2025-26. This was a similar situation to what Dundon found himself in when he began the purchase of the Hurricanes in the NHL back in 2017, and since that point, they've been improving year after year, becoming one of the NHL's most consistent teams over the past several seasons.

Dundon now becomes the third owner in Blazers franchise history, following the original group from 1970 to 1988 before Allen took over then. Since his passing in 2018, the franchise has been run by his sister Jody, and now, in the 55-year history of the organization, they officially have their third owner, with Dundon set to be in full control of the team ahead of next season.

It's unclear just how much the purchase of the Trail Blazers will change the day-to-day of the organization, but with things looking up for this team on the court, Dundon's purchase can only be seen as a good thing for the future of the franchise.
