NBA Set To Conduct Independent Investigation Into Malik Beasley's Betting Accusations
Sep 12, 2025
Earlier this off-season, it was revealed that free agent Malik Beasley was the target of a gambling investigation by the U.S. Attorney's office due to his actions back in 2021 while a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. In August, ESPN's Shams Charania revealed that Beasley was no longer the target of the investigation, and while he wasn't completely cleared, he was simply seen as a subject in the investigation.
That has made him officially available to sign somewhere as a free agent, but now, the story around the veteran sharp-shooter is changing. According to ESPN's David Perdum, the league is now conducting their own investigation into Beasley, one that he is reportedly fully cooperating with.
If Beasley was found not guilty in a court of law, the NBA would have no room to punish him, but since they're beginning the investigation, they may be looking into a potential fine or suspension. As of right now, there's no reason to suggest that any of that is coming, but obviously, there is a reason why the NBA's front office feels as though some type of investigation into the situation is necessary.

Given that Beasley is fully cooperating, there's no reason to believe that he has anything to hide, and if that's the case, this should result in him being able to return to the league as a free agent this off-season. Ultimately though, only time will tell how this plays out, but in the meantime, don't be shocked to see Beasley sign a new deal with several contenders targeting him.
