Brooklyn Nets Reportedly Waive 11 PPG Player From A Season Ago

Last season, there were very few bright spots for the Brooklyn Nets, a team that once again struggled to be competitive in the post-KD/Kyrie era. One of those bright spots was scoring guard Cam Thomas, but beyond that, the team failed to get consistent scoring as they ranked second-last in the NBA in points per night with just 105.4 points scored.

Another under-the-radar contributor was 23-year-old guard Keon Johnson, who had the best season of his career, averaging 11 points and 4 boards a night on 39% shooting from the field. Despite being young, the Nets seemingly don't see the former first-round pick as a piece of their future, as it was confirmed on Wednesday that the team is officially waiving him.

This comes despite consistent production across the board over 79 games played, but with the team acquiring Michael Porter Jr. as well as five first-round picks that need playing time, the move certainly makes sense for Brooklyn. Unfortunately for Johnson, that just means there was no room for him on this roster, and with the Nets likely unable to trade him, this was the move that the team needed to make to optimize their future.

Now, the 23-year-old will be available to negotiate with any team moving forward, and while he may never end up living up to the hype of a former first-round pick, this is a player who could be a solid contributor for a winning team in the years to come.
