Miami Heat Looking to Target Kevin Durant in 2026 Free Agency

The Miami Heat tried to be aggressive this off-season, and while they landed Norman Powell, they missed out on some big names. The biggest of all was Kevin Durant, whom the team put in an offer for, but were ultimately outbid by the Houston Rockets, who appear ready to chase an NBA Championship in 2025/26.

However, the Heat haven't given up on their long standing dream of landing Durant, as recent reports have revealed their interest remains. According to Fadeawayworld, the Heat are keeping an eye on Durant ahead of free agency next summer, and even though he'll be approaching 40, the team are ready to be aggressive to land him if the time comes.

At this point in time, Durant and the Rockets haven't made much headway on an extension, and while that could change, as of right now, Durant is headed for free agency next summer. Despite his age, he continues to dominate at the NBA level, as he posted 27 points a night on 53% shooting last season, playing 37 minutes a night for the Phoenix Suns.

The Heat have always been interested in Durant, being linked to him on the way out of Brooklyn and Phoenix, and with a solid roster, they could offer him a chance to win another ring in the East in 2026/27. For now though, he's focused on next season with the Rockets, but if an extension doesn't get done, expect Miami to aggressively pursue the former MVP.
