Andre Iguodala Raves About Former NBA Rival
Jan 19, 2026
Andre Iguodala and LeBron James have an interesting history. They came into the league around the same time, and eventually found themselves in the middle of one of the greatest NBA rivalries of recent generations.
Andre Iguodala even won the NBA Finals MVP partly because he did such a good job guarding LeBron James. Now, Iguodala is retired. Like James, he has four NBA championships to his name and over a decade of NBA seasons.

Iguodala recently spoke about James and what makes him different from some of the other great players in NBA history.
“I just think he's so great that they have to talk about him, and you know how it can get, where it's like when someone is playing for so long, the narrative has to go every which way as long as he's the narrative. And so, I just think that just speaks volumes to his greatness, that people have to talk about him. It could be positive, it could be negative, but he's gonna drive basketball conversations because of his greatness. And he's carried the torch for so long. We've only seen two people carry the torch for this long, him and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. They're the only two players you've seen carry the torch for two decades. LeBron can still dominate the game with his brain. And his body hasn't slowed down the way you normally would. It's just because of how much work he puts into his body and how he takes care of his body. And he's showing a blueprint for the younger players.”
Iguodala knows how hard it is for your body to keep up with your mind as you age in the NBA. He's seen tons of players go through it, and he's had to deal with it himself. James has done it just as well as anyone, and despite being former rivals, Iguodala respects that.
