Toronto Raptors Name New Head Of Basketball Operations

The Toronto Raptors are coming out of what was the most successful period in franchise history, and with a talented young group led by Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram and others, the future is looking very bright. However, the organization is moving forward without one of the key men responsible for that success, as they parted ways with Masai Ujiri earlier this off-season.

Thus far, they have not replaced him in their front office, with plenty of turnover in the ownership group of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment, but now, they've officially made a decision.

According to a recent report from NBA Insider Shams Charania, the team are appointing current General Manager Bobby Webster to the role, expanding his responsibilities within the Raptors organization.

Webster was one of Ujiri's first hires in the front office back in 2013, and since 2017 he has served as the General Manager of the organization, working hand-in-hand with Ujiri as they built the team's first ever NBA Champion. Now, Webster will need to play a bigger role as the team look to build with the core of Barnes, Ingram, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick and others, with plenty of talent to lead them into the future.

It's unclear if the Raptors were looking for an outside hire to fill this role alongside Webster, but given that he's been with the team for over a decade and the GM for 8 years, it makes sense to expand his responsibilities as this team looks to build another winner moving forward.
