Michael Porter Jr. Opens Up On His Future With The Brooklyn Nets

Last summer, the Brooklyn Nets looked to add to their collection of future assets, and in doing so, dealt Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets in what was seen as a win-win deal for both parties. In return, the Nets landed former first-round pick Michael Porter Jr., with the hopes that he could be the veteran to lead this young, rebuilding franchise forward.

In 2025/26, MPJ averaged a career-high 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists per game, and while the team weren't competitive in the Eastern Conference, he showed out in a big way. With plenty of young players and draft capital, the future is bright in Brooklyn, and while they may be a few years away from genuinely competing, MPJ has made it clear he wants to be a part of that future.

"If it was up to me, I'd love to sign an extension with this franchise... I would love to spend many, many years in Brooklyn and make this my home and watch this franchise take off."

Obviously, it takes two to tango, so if Porter Jr. is to get an extension with Brooklyn, the team would need to see him as a key piece of their future, the way he seemingly sees himself moving forward.

On paper, MPJ is a very solid fit for the future of the Nets, and while he may not be around when they become competitive again, if he had it his way, he would no doubt be around long-term with Brooklyn.
