Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Reveals When He Will Retire From the NBA

Last season was one full of incredible performances around the NBA, but it's safe to say that the biggest story of all was Shai Gilgeous-Alexander taking the final step to superstardom. Not only did he win MVP, but SGA led the Oklahoma City Thunder to their first-ever NBA Championship, putting up an all-time playoff performance in the process.

On the back of that, the Thunder are set up to have success for a long, long time, with most of their core locked in for years to come. However, that hasn't stopped the question of retirement from being posed to Shai, who revealed that when he loses a step, he'll officially step away from the game.

“I definitely think I can… I won’t, though… I won’t want to miss that much of my kid’s life… And there’s a certain point in your career where you reach your peak. I don’t fault guys for still playing. They love the game. But I just feel like I play this game, ultimately, to see what the best version of me can be. Once I figure that out and I start going down, then it’s like, Okay, well, what am I playing for now? As soon as that happens, I’ll be on the first ship out.”

As of right now, the 27-year-old is just entering his prime with years and years of potential success ahead of him, but what this answer tells us is that he won't be around until his 40s like other NBA players we’ve seen.
