Reporter Reveals The Desired Return For Memphis In A Ja Morant Trade
Jan 12, 2026
Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies have had a very positive relationship over the past seven years, with the former No. 2 overall pick becoming the face of the franchise. Not only that, but he helped the organization turn things around in a big way, as they became a genuine contender in a very tough Western Conference during that time.
While they would never go on to much playoff success, Morant has been fantastic on the court, but off the court, he's been a major issue for the Grizzlies. Now, things are coming to a head, and after months of speculation, it appears to be a matter of when, not if the star point guard is going to be traded.
As of right now, we don't know where he's headed, but according to the latest report from Marc Stein, we now know what the Grizzlies are searching for in a return in any Morant trade.
According to Stein, the team are hoping for at least one first-round pick for the former No. 2 pick, and while he has the talent to get them more, given his injury history and his off-court issues, they may not get as much as their fans would hope for.

On paper, there are many teams out there that could use Morant, and while the Grizzlies are looking for more than just one pick, if a contender can offer up at least that, there's a good chance he's moved in the coming weeks.
