Zach Lowe Discusses Why Miami is the Best Giannis Trade Destination
Jan 30, 2026
Where is Giannis Antetokounmpo going to get traded? Two teams, the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat, have been eyeing him for years, and it seems like right now may be the moment where their dreams could come true. Giannis is officially on the trade block, and there is growing belief that he could be dealt before the February 5th trade deadline.
NBA insider Zach Lowe recently discussed what the Miami Heat roster could look like if they ended up winning the Giannis sweepstakes.
“Starting 5 would be Mitchell, Powell, Larsson, Giannis, and Bam. They share the same agents and are great basketball players, and they would make a fit work better than on paper… Big question: How easy is it to add to your team this summer? If the Heat do this exact trade, they have $145M in salary for next year, which vaporizes most of their cap room. That doesn’t include Powell extension. You’d still have the mid-level exception… now the summer after that, the Heat could get to a point where it’s just Giannis and Bam a cap space. Pat Riley is a veteran with that kind of situation. Donovan Mitchell free agency is there.”

Would the starting five that Lowe laid out be good enough to win the Eastern Conference? Potentially. Still, the Heat certainly wouldn’t be the unquestionable favorite if they made a deal for Giannis. Does that mean they shouldn’t pursue him? Absolutely not.
Lowe added that the Heat could eventually add a third star, like Donovan Mitchell, to the core of Giannis and Bam. This would be an extremely formidable group. There are a lot of “what ifs” involved with Giannis going to the Heat. That being said, it definitely seems like an attractive trade destination.
