New Report Reveals Why Darius Garland Could Want Out Of Cleveland

The Cleveland Cavaliers were one of the NBA's best regular-season teams a year ago, and while they struggled in the postseason, many expected them to take another step forward in 2025–26. Unfortunately, though, they've dealt with injuries and inconsistencies, and while they sit at 16-14 through 30 games this season, there's major disappointment around this team.

That's led to plenty of trade speculation, with star point guard Darius Garland being at the center of it all as it appears he may want out of Cleveland. If that is the case, there's plenty of interest in the All-Star point guard, and now, it's been revealed why he may potentially want out of Cleveland and his backcourt pairing with Donovan Mitchell.

“The intel from some NBA teams is a perception that Garland would like to run his own team again at some point, as opposed to being in a more complementary role next to Mitchell.”

According to Grant Afseth, Garland may want to run his own team, rather than be a key piece of a backcourt pairing with another All-Star, and if that is the case, there are plenty of options out there for him to find a new home.

This season, Garland has appeared in just 14 of the team's 30 games, and if Cleveland's slow start continues, don't be surprised if the team looks to move on and look towards their star guard as a potential piece to be moved.
