Doug Christie Reveals What He Believes is the Missing Piece for Kings

The Sacramento Kings are in a bad place. With a roster full of talented veterans, you’d expect them to be off to a better start to the season. Instead, they are currently 3-9 and on a four-game losing streak. They are 13th in the Western Conference standings, and it doesn’t seem like they have a great path to truly turn things around.

After a recent loss to the Denver Nuggets, Kings’ coach Doug Christie spoke to the media about what he thinks the team is doing wrong.

“Offense? Ain’t nobody talking about offense. Tonight was only 108, but on most nights we’re scoring enough points. It ain’t about the offense. There’s a lot of people that can score the basketball. If we want to win, we need to focus on the defense, period. Offense — make some shots. You make and miss shots. I get that. There’s timing and different things. But I don’t want to hear about no offense.”

Christie wants the team to focus on defense more than offense. The Kings' response in their next game? An absolute dud on both offense and defense. After Christie’s media quotes, they followed things up by allowing 133 points to the Atlanta Hawks in a 133-100 loss.

What makes the loss even worse is that the Hawks put up this huge scoring night without their best offensive player, Trae Young.

Whether it’s offense or defense, the Kings need to make some major adjustments. They won’t even be able to compete for the Play-In Tournament with performances like this.
