Reggie Miller Discusses Who is Better, Shaq or Jokic?
Nov 12, 2025
Who is the greatest NBA center of all time? Is it Wilt Chamberlain? Bill Russell? Or someone more recent, like Shaquille O'Neal or Nikola Jokić? The debate will probably go on as long as basketball does. However, that doesn't make it a boring one.
Reggie Miller was recently asked about the greatest NBA center debate on the Dan Patrick Show. He was asked to compare Shaq with Jokic.

"Okay, let me first start saying, are we playing in today's rules or are we playing in Shaq's rules in the 90s, early 2000s? Like, which one do we get to do? Does Shaq get to get it in the post and turn? This was Shaq's favorite move, and he got away with it in today's game; he wouldn't be able to get away with that. So, which rules are we playing with?"
He then answered as if they were both in their prime playing with today’s rules.
"I think Shaq dominates in any era. Let me start by saying that. So it wouldn't matter. I just think they would put Shaq in a gazillion pick-and-rolls in today's game and get him out of the paint. Shaq would have to cover more paint. Now, I do agree. Orlando Shaq, who was nimble and skinnier and could run all day, I think he would thrive. I still think the most dominant version of Shaq, when he was in LA and much bigger, he would still have an effect on the game. How would he do versus Jokić? I would love to see… I'm still going with Big Fella. Look, Shaq, he denied me on a lot of occasions."
This one might be a bit biased. Reggie played in the same era as Shaq and felt his dominance firsthand. That being said, Jokic is definitely a more complete player than Shaq. Could Shaq dominate in today's game without being able to shoot? Who knows. What we do know is that both of these players are in the conversation for the greatest centers ever, and Jokic's story is still being written.
