New Report Reveals The Top Reason Why A City Will Land An NBA Expansion Team

For a long time, NBA fans have been awaiting two things: the return of the Seattle Supersonics as well as NBA expansion, and now, both appear to be right on the horizon. After months of speculation, the NBA's Board of Governors voted and approved a league-wide vote for expansion, with the NBA expected to push for Seattle and Vegas as their two newest markets.

Obviously, plenty needs to happen before that becomes official, but as of right now, they're the two front runners for a new city as the NBA looks to expand from 30 to 32 teams. However, there's going to be other interested cities as well, and according to a report from Howard Beck, this expansion will all be about money, and if a team comes in and outbids either Vegas or Seattle, they may land a new team.

As of right now, there are so many cities around North America that have NBA teams, so there aren't many possibilities beyond Seattle and Vegas, but with the likes of San Diego, Mexico City, Kansas City and a potential move back to Canada, there are other opportunities.

Ultimately, Seattle and Vegas aren't guaranteed to be the 31st and 32nd cities of the NBA, but they are favored, and as long as they come in with a strong enough bid, it's likely that we'll see the return of the Supersonics and the arrival of Vegas in 2028/29.
