Here's Chris Broussard Calling Luka Doncic "A Hall Of Fame Ball Hog"

Once upon a time, Chris Broussard gave the nickname “Luka Legend” to Luka Doncic. This moniker, a throwback to the legendary Larry Bird who used to be called “Larry Legend,” was a sincere expression of Broussard’s admiration for the Slovenian star.

This week, though, Broussard had another name for Doncic. And it was far from reverential.

On Tuesday’s episode of “First Things First,” Broussard listened to his Fox Sports 1 colleague Nick Wright making the claim that Doncic is the best player in the NBA today. Locked and loaded with stats, Brou delivered a crisp rebuttal: “There is no way anyone should be taking 30 shots a game when you’re shooting 39%, and when you have LeBron James and Austin Reaves on your team.”

After dropping some more numbers to prop up his thesis (including Doncic taking more shots than James and Reaves combined over the last two games), Broussard had his mic drop moment. “He’s a Hall of Fame ball hog,” Brou said, leaning back in his chair. “He’s an all-time great ball hog, but he’s a ball hog.”

Broussard’s rant had his “First Things First” colleagues chuckling incessantly. But the thing is, Nick Wright and Kevin Wildes have heard this before. On March 25, 2025 (almost a year to the date of Broussard’s latest Doncic critique), Brou had this to say: “Luka Doncic is a ball hog. A great ball hog, a Hall of Fame ball hog…an all-time elite ball hog. He’s a ball hog!”

Indeed, some things never change: Broussard’s straight face while slamming Luka, Wright and Wildes’ failure to contain their laughter, and Doncic’s ball-dominant style on the court. For better or for worse, Doncic needs an abundance of touches to be effective, and the results speak for themselves. This season, he is on track to win his second scoring title, as his average of 33.4 ppg outshines the production of gunners like Anthony Edwards and reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Would the Lakers be a different team if Doncic altered his ball-dominant ways? Absolutely? Would they be better off in that case? That’s a huge question mark, but there’s really no sense in waiting for Doncic to turn over a new leaf as he hits the peak of his career.

Broussard mocked Doncic for his style last year. He did it again this year, and it’s likely that a “First Things First” segment in March 2027 will have more of the same.
