Longtime NBA Veteran Officially Announces Retirement From Basketball

Way back in 2008, Danilo Gallinari was the No. 8 overall pick by the New York Knicks, and he'd go on to have a storied career, playing for many teams. Those teams would include New York, Denver, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, Washington, Detroit, and lastly the Milwaukee Bucks back in 2023–24.

Since then, he's gone on to play overseas, having some immense success doing so, but at 37 years of age, there were many question marks over his future in basketball. Now, those have been answered, as the veteran has officially announced his retirement from the sport.

Across 14 seasons and 777 games in the NBA, Gallinari averaged 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists per game, shooting 43% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc. He was unable to win a championship across those 14 seasons, but he became an immensely valuable stretch player at the forward position, and if he had played in the modern NBA in his prime, he would be a perfect fit for so many contending teams.

Sure, Gallinari may not be a Hall of Famer, but role players are still very important in the NBA, and in the last generation, there were few who played their role better than Gallinari. Now, we await news on his future, as he could become a very good coach, scout, or executive in a front office, with the 37-year-old veteran still having a very bright future in the sport.
