Aaron Gordon Declares That The Denver Nuggets Will Win The NBA Title: "Everyone Else Is Going To Hold An L"

Aaron Gordon has every reason to have sky-high confidence this season. He’s putting up career highs in scoring and three-point shooting, and his team is up there in the Western Conference standings.

So, is it any surprise that he believes the Denver Nuggets will go all the way?

Appearing on “The Old Man and the Three” earlier this week, Gordon looked podcast co-host (and his Nuggets teammate) Cam Johnson in the eye and made a heartfelt declaration.

“At the end of the day, I believe we're going to be the ones that walk off with the win. We'll be the last team to win,” Gordon said. “Everybody else is going to hold an L at the end of the season, except for us.”

The Slam Dunk Contest icon wasn’t saying this to simply brag and go viral. On the contrary, Gordon was saying these words in the context of building Johnson’s confidence. Johnson, of course, is a Nuggets newcomer who is still in the process of figuring out his fit in Denver.

“We're going to be the ones to win at the end of the season. All you've got to do is just be yourself,” Gordon told Johnson.

Though A.G. has missed around two weeks of action as he recovers from a hamstring injury, he has been a force to be reckoned with this season. Putting up 18.8 PPG on 53.2% FG shooting (and 44.4% from beyond the arc), Gordon has added firepower to the Nuggets' offense that has leaned on Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray for the past few seasons.

Johnson, who tasted action in the NBA Finals back in his Phoenix Suns days, hasn’t quite hit his stride yet, going from 18.8 PPG last season in Brooklyn to just 11.2 PPG thus far with the Nuggets. Nevertheless, he continues to shoot efficiently (46.3% from the field, 39.0% from deep) as Denver (14–6) slugs it out with the top teams in the West.

Gordon, of course, knows all about playing with a less-than-stellar team before elevating his game to a different level in the Mile High. The Nuggets may have their usual share of detractors this season, but their resident high-flying dunker wholeheartedly believes that they can reach the NBA’s summit again.
