LeBron Opens Up About Retirement Plans
Apr 3, 2026
It seems like every few weeks, there is another rumor out there about where LeBron James is going to play next season or if he is going to play at all. Retirement is “creeping up” on LeBron, and it seems like it’s only a matter of time until he announces that his final season is upon us.

But with all the rumors, nobody is actually listening to what LeBron is saying about his own retirement. He recently revealed his retirement plans in an interview while golfing.
“If the mind is still in it, then I think everything will take care of itself. For me, I love the process. If I can continue to be process-oriented, getting to the arena early, 5 hours before, locking in, excited about it, then I can do it forever. When it gets to that point I feel like I don’t want to go early or don’t want to workout or train, then I’ll be cheating the game and I don’t want to do that — (On Bronny) I have even more of a purpose to show up to work, to workout and train, because I know he’s looking like ‘ok, that’s how you be a professional right there.’ So I have a responsibility with him around.”
If LeBron hadn’t needed to set a great example for his son, his career might not still be going. Playing with his son and trying to set the best example possible has caused LeBron to find another gear. As long as LeBron continues to find something to play for, he will keep lacing them up.
