Warriors Could Sign Perfect Center of the Future Next Offseason

The Golden State Warriors should probably already be looking ahead. Unless something miraculous happens with a Jonathan Kuminga trade, they likely won’t quite have enough talent to compete with the very best of the Western Conference.

Looking toward the future, they will need to find themselves some young talent to both help Stephen Curry end his career on a high note, while also giving the team a chance to compete after he is gone.

One player who needs to be on the Warriors' radar for next summer is Walker Kessler. With Kessler unable to figure out an extension with Utah this summer, he may become one of the top centers on the free agent market next season.

The Warriors need to find their center of the future. Al Horford will likely play for just one year. Quentin Post and Trayce Jackson-Davis have been okay, but don’t project as game changers at the center position.

Kessler could be the franchise center the team has been needing since Andrew Bogut left.

Kessler, like Bogut, is an ace rim protector. He consistently ranks as one of the top shot blockers in the league and averaged a double-double with 11.1 points and 12.2 rebounds per game last season. The Warriors could really use a presence like that in the middle.

Owner Joe Lacob cannot be ignored in these future plans. Lacob has long dreamed of getting an impact center for the Warriors. James Wiseman was a failure, but signing someone like Kessler could be a chance at redemption.
