Warriors Media Day To Be Very Awkward Without Full Roster

The Golden State Warriors are just a few hours from the start of their media day. The Warriors' media day is going to be a bit different this season. That’s because the Warriors currently have only ten signed players on their roster.

It was announced over the weekend that a few of the Warriors' free agent targets have “agreed” to contracts, but there hasn’t been any official paperwork. Shams Charania of ESPN reported, “BREAKING: Free agent Al Horford has committed to a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, agent Jason Glushon tells ESPN. After seven of the past nine years in Boston and winning the 2024 title, Horford will enter his 19th NBA season as the Warriors' starting center.”

He also reported, “Free agents Gary Payton II and De'Anthony Melton have committed to signing deals to return to the Golden State Warriors, sources tell ESPN. Payton, Melton, and Al Horford are now locked in for the Warriors' 2025-26 roster.”

So the Warriors will have a roster by the start of training camp, but for media day, it won’t be a full one.

That’s why this Warriors media day will be so awkward. To get hyped for the 2025-26 season, taking pictures, answering questions, and shooting promotional content without nearly a third of your roster is just weird.

And it’s all because Jonathan Kuminga is trying to play hardball. By delaying his decision to either accept one of the Warriors' outstanding offers or accept his qualifying offer, he has tanked the Warriors' entire offseason.

They haven’t been able to make any official signings, and consequently, they will have one of the weirdest media days in recent history.
