Kristaps Porzingis' Promising Performance In EuroBasket Win Proves Celtics’ Mistake
Sep 5, 2025
Kristaps Porzingis is finally healthy. He missed almost half of the Boston Celtics’ games last season, and many were worried that a mystery “illness” was going to cause bigger problems down the road. That, along with his large contract, may have been the reason the Celtics traded him this offseason.
Some think they cut bait with Porzingis at the right time. Others think they may have gotten rid of a key piece that helped them win the 2024 NBA Championship.
What is for sure is that when Porzingis is healthy, he is a really impactful player.

He proved this once again with his solid performance in EuroBasket on Wednesday. Porzingis helped lead Latvia to a dominant win over Czechia, 109-75. While Porzingis didn’t blow anyone out of the water with his 16 points and seven rebounds, he still showed that he can bring a ton to a winning team.
The Celtics might be watching Porzingis play for Latvia during EuroBasket and wonder why they let him go so easily. After all, they basically sent him to the Atlanta Hawks this offseason for nothing.
Now that Porzingis seems healthy and may have this “illness” behind him, it seems like the Celtics sold very low. Porzingis’ value is already up with his recent EuroBasket play.
For the Hawks, they seem like they got a total steal on the NBA trade market. Porzingis, while still on a hefty contract, is a great player when healthy. That, however, has always been his biggest issue. He often can’t remain healthy for long stretches of time. Hopefully for Porzingis, Latvia, and the Atlanta Hawks, his recent play is an indication that he is healthy for the near future.
