Kevin Durant Reveals The Blockbuster Trade He Blocked Last Season

Last season was the final one for Kevin Durant in Phoenix, as the superstar forward is set to join his fifth NBA team after being traded to the Houston Rockets this offseason in a blockbuster deal. That move gives the Rockets the big-time star they were desperate for last season, but things almost didn't pan out this way for the veteran star.

There were reports that many teams were pushing to land Durant at the 2025 trade deadline, but ultimately, he decided to stick it out with Phoenix to see if they could make a late run in the Western Conference. Now, Durant has revealed a blockbuster deal that almost went down, as he admits that he personally blocked a trade that would have seen him return to Golden State, the place he won two NBA championships.

Given how things ended, especially with Draymond Green, it's no surprise that Durant didn't want to return to Golden State, with the team instead pivoting to landing Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat.

However, for Durant's career, blocking this trade certainly comes as a surprise, as a return to Golden State would have given him a much better shot at an NBA championship than staying in Phoenix did in 2024/25. Ultimately, though, it appears that KD moved on both physically and mentally when he left the Warriors, and even if a return would have led to success, that ship has sailed for the superstar forward who now chases a title in Houston.
