Jaylen Brown Reveals Which NBA Legend Urged Him To Stay In Boston When He Considered Asking Out
Nov 25, 2025
Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics dominated en route to the 2024 NBA Championship, and while injuries have derailed them in the time since, this is an organization that's experienced plenty of success in the past decade. It hasn't all been easy during the tenure of Brown and Jayson Tatum, however, and despite having two top-five draft picks, there were times when fans were ready to give up on their young core.
That goes for Brown as well, who revealed that once upon a time, he considered asking for a trade as things in Boston weren't going well for him or the team. Now, he's revealed the NBA legend that he looks up to, who gave him the advice to stick things out in Boston, ultimately ending up in the team winning the title back in 2024.
That player was Tracy McGrady, who has been somewhat of a mentor for Brown, who revealed that the advice T Mac gave to him when he revealed his thoughts about asking for a trade.
"Nah, bro, trust me. Whatever you can do, if you could stay, you've got the opportunity to win, win."
That turned out to be a brilliant move for Brown, as they not only won their first ring as a franchise since 2008, but he also got a massive deal, signing a five-year, $285 million extension.

With the team struggling without Jayson Tatum, some have speculated that Brown could once again consider asking for a trade, but given how loyal he's been thus far, that's unlikely to change anytime soon.
