Minnesota Timberwolves Looking To Significantly Upgrade At One Position
Nov 26, 2025
The Minnesota Timberwolves were once cellar dwellers in the Western Conference for a long, long time, but in recent years, they've become a genuine contender. That comes on the back of Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle, and Rudy Gobert, but still, there's a missing piece there.
That piece would be a starting point guard, as Mike Conley has simply gotten too old to effectively play in that role, and now, according to Michael Scotto, that's a position they're looking to upgrade at.
“While Edwards and McDaniels are viewed as young pillars for the Timberwolves, Minnesota’s due diligence on Morant signaled the team’s desire to upgrade at point guard and will continue to be on the agenda leading up to the trade deadline, league sources said.”
That comes as a result of the team doing their due diligence on Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, who the team would love to acquire to bring swagger and athleticism back to the position. Beyond Morant, there are other options out there that could bring stability and better balance to this Timberwolves starting lineup, and if they want to compete with the likes of the Nuggets, Thunder, and Lakers in the West, they need to make a change.

With an upgrade at the point guard spot, the Timberwolves would have as good a shot as anyone in the West, so while their targets aren't yet clear, don't be surprised to see them push hard for an upgrade this season.
