Ben Simmons Drawing Free Agency Interest from the NBL In Australia

Once upon a time, Ben Simmons was one of the most exciting young players in NBA history, with many seeing him as a star in the league for a long time to come. Unfortunately, injuries and the mental side of things have caught up with him, and now, with the regular season just weeks away, he remains a free agent.

That comes despite interest from the New York Knicks, and after the team went in a different direction, the interest in Simmons has all but disappeared. However, he's still drawing intrigue from some places, with Talk Basket reporting that Simmons could be headed home in 2025–26.

According to their report, the National Basketball League in Australia has heavy interest in the Melbourne native, and while it's unclear whether or not that interest is mutual, it's becoming more and more clear that there's not a starting role in the NBA for Simmons right now.

Despite his talent, Simmons managed to average just 5 points and 6 rebounds a year ago, and with teams worried about his health, a minimum deal in the NBA is all he's likely to get. At 29 years of age, Simmons still has plenty of gas left in the tank, but after it was reported he was considering retirement this summer, this could go in any direction.

Ultimately, it's unlikely that Simmons will return home to play in the NBL, as a minimum deal in the NBA is likely worth more to him, but if he wants to keep playing in a significant role, it may be his only option.
