Warriors Still Interested in This Elite Forward Despite His Questionable Availability

The Golden State Warriors are going to need some reinforcements. With Jimmy Butler out for the season, the Warriors are going to be desperate to get some more offensive firepower. The team has been linked in trade rumors to multiple elite scorers, but it is unclear whether they will have the pieces to make a deal happen.

Anthony Slater reported that “a name I continue to hear that has long been and is still of interest to the Warriors is Trey Murphy. The Pelicans have been signaling they don’t want to move him... it could pry the Warriors off a few picks.”

Unfortunately for the Warriors, it isn’t clear if Trey Murphy is even available on the trade market.

The Athletic reported, “The Pelicans reportedly have told teams they’re not going to trade Williamson, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy III, Derik Queen, or Jeremiah Fears. As it pertains to Williamson only, however, league sources expressed skepticism to The Athletic about that report. League sources said they cannot envision any scenario in which Washington would give up one of its own future first-round picks. But one source speculated that a pick owed to the Wizards, such as the least favorable of the Houston Rockets’ (top-four protected), LA Clippers’, and Oklahoma City Thunder’s 2026 first-round picks, might satisfy the Pelicans’ goals.”

The Pelicans might just be posturing, but if they truly aren’t shopping Jones or Murphy, a lot of teams will be disappointed. If Murphy isn’t on the block, the Warriors need to look elsewhere for an offensive boost.

The Warriors are in a tough position. They want players they can’t have. They have players they don’t want. Their second-best player is out for the season. It will be very interesting to see if they can pull anything off at this deadline.
