Could This Be Steve Kerr's Last Season Coaching the Warriors?

The end of the Golden State Warriors' dynasty has already begun. When Klay Thompson left last season for the Dallas Mavericks, the writing was on the wall. The Warriors' core wasn’t going to go riding off into the sunset together, and the end of the Warriors dynasty was already here.

Steve Kerr could be the next piece of the Warriors’ dynasty to leave Golden State. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green still have one year on their contracts after this one. Kerr’s contract, on the other hand, is up at the end of this year. An extension hasn’t been signed.

The Ringer’s Logan Murdock reported that Steve Kerr might not be in Golden State after this season.

“But Kerr’s future is still up in the air. This is the final year of his contract, and as of Wednesday, he has yet to sign a new deal. Though Kerr has publicly been mum about his future, multiple assistant coaches have been operating under the premise that he will not return next season, according to team sources, with some surveying the league to secure jobs next season.”

The Warriors don’t look like they’re going to be able to compete for a championship this year. Kerr has also been butting heads with management over how to utilize Jonathan Kuminga. It seems like a very real possibility that Kerr could leave the Warriors after this season.

The one reason he would stay is Stephen Curry. Kerr recently said that as long as Curry is playing, he will want to coach him. Curry is going to keep playing for at least a couple more seasons, so if Kerr is telling the truth, he will coach a few more seasons, too.
