Toronto Raptors Willing To Part Ways With Young Star For A Major Upgrade

The Toronto Raptors have been building a fantastic young core over the past few seasons, and while they've moved many of their 2019 championship pieces, they've assembled a very talented young group. Last season, they added Brandon Ingram to that group, and with the team starting off the 2025–26 season with a record of 27–19, they're clearly ready to take the next step forward.

As a result, they've been linked to some major upgrades, particularly at the center spot, and now, they've reportedly held discussions with the Kings over Domantas Sabonis. Now, a new report has revealed that the team is willing to part ways with hometown star RJ Barrett to make an upgrade possible.

"TSN can confirm that Toronto appears willing to part with some combination of Immanuel Quickley, Jakob Poeltl, and RJ Barrett, or at least that's the impression that rival teams have gleaned from exploratory discussions. That tracks, both because the Raptors would need to include one or two of those players to match salary in any big trade, but also because those are the contracts limiting their financial flexibility moving forward."

Since the team landed Barrett in the trade to move OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks, he has become a massive part of this lineup alongside Scottie Barnes and Ingram, but to land an upgrade, a team needs to give up key pieces.

Ultimately, the Raptors aren't just going to give away Barrett, but if they can land themselves a major upgrade to help their NBA playoff hopes, it's a move that could make sense for this team.
